Lyric Games

the best descriptive term I've come up with for the current crop of indie-ish, story-ish, micro-ish games like most of what is flooding into itch rn is "lyric," like lyric poetry or lyric painting

with overlap but in the main distinct from what I call the "post-osr"

Sword Dream

Aside from being a really good name, it started as a one-off joke in a splinter discord that emerged earlier this year as G+ was dying.

I think there's about 1000 definitions but the one I remember is

Initiative mechanics

A brief interaction with @fencedforest earlier reminded me that I don't like standard D&D initiative, so here are a few tweaks that improve it (for me!) followed by some reasoning; you can adopt any/all of them, but I like them together:

I've come around to be a big fan of DUAD (Declare Up, Adjudicate Down) as it always makes for tense, dynamic fights.

It requires a relatively quick combat system and really shines with the lethality cranked up. https://t.co/2asaCidN4F
